| Barnmom - 2017-04-06 5:04 PM Does anyone follow the fasting suggestions on the bulletproof diet from 8PM to 2PM except for the bulletproof coffee in the morning? Just wondering how that works in real life and when do you work out?
I'm not a big fan of doing the bulletproof coffee thing/fast EVERY day. (I'm not sure if you meant you werent going to do the coffee and just fast) but for 400 calories in that the coffee has there are a lot more nutritous things you can put in your body.
That being said, I am a big fan of intermittent fasting and calorie cycling if your goal is weight loss. I think its best to keep your body on its toes to keep your metabolism from lowering and from stalling.
I am active and probably need 2200 to maintain, but I am in fat loss mode right now so my calories are a little lower. I usually walk a bit in the morning while I'm in fast mode, and do my cardio/weights fed otherwise I feel too weak.
I use my version of bulletproof coffe for breakfast on fast days (monday and wed, 1500 cal), but I only do 1 tbsp of coconut oil, and 1/2 tbsp butter, its still low cal if I want it on regular days with a small breakfast. I like the benefits of coconut oil and coffee in moderation. I feel like the coffee helps a lot with appetite control on these days. I do some light cardio, or just work outside this day after lunch. (I do sometimes feel a bit weak before lunch (my metabolism is really high).
On regular days (1700 cal) I prefer to alternate eggs and vegan proteins shake with coconut milk & yogurt, hemp and pea protein and some antioxident fruit breakfast is around 3-400 calories. I do light cardio and work outside, and lift some weights.
Then I do 1 refeed or load day sunday (2300 cal) where I eat only meats, veggies and salad, and save my carbs for some good deserts as a reward. (usually we go to a buffet after church) I just really love food and can't stick with a diet that doesnt let me have cake somewhat often. I work out a little more this day. Lift heavier weights after I have eaten.
I have lost about 20lb, got to about 17% body fat doing this and its way more sustainable than trying a steady, stricter diet. I can never stick to those long term. I dont obsess too much over what I eat, I set my macros at 30% carb, 20% protein and 50% fat (healthy ones) and I found I just naturally eat pretty close to this, any less carbs and I feel pretty lethargic.
I use the Myfitnesspal app so it's so easy to meal plan and stick to it. I usually just put in the night before what I am going to eat the next day so I dont have to think too much about it later, and if I get super hungry or tired I might add something else. Sometimes I meal plan dinners for the whole week in there so I know what to have on hand.
For the OP I found paleo too restricting and hard for my kids, (and I couldnt stick to it) so we still do some paleo recipes but mostly just stick with good old fashion real foods, I cut way back on processed grains & sugars, and my kids eat smaller portions of brown rice, and oatmeal, oat flour pancakes, sweet potato now for carbs, lots of eggs, meat, some cottage cheese, fruit, veggies. healthy fats, coconut yogurt. We sweeten with agave or stevia. Pinterest is great for dinner ideas. I have learned to only save easy, less ingredient foods that I will actually make, otherwise it gets too cluttered. |
