Both bits are similar, but the tender touch has a longer purchase, Jr Cowhorse has more curve to the shank. Which one do you prefer and why did you choose that one vs the other? Do you find the Jr Cowhorse has more lift due to shorter purchase and curved shank?

Edited: typos!

I have a tender touch with a life saver mouth piece, and then a jr. cow horse two piece twisted...the TT is collecting dust. Everything I've used it on hates it, especially the mare i thought I bought it for, LOL!!! Seriously, it is on the most beautiful headstall, white hair on cheek peices, angora brow band with turqoise rock conchos and the angor has cobwebs in it. Even my gelding who you can pretty much ride and or run in anything right down to a side pull hates that thing. I tend to be a little snatchy with my hands so maybe that is some of it also.

I have a Jr Cowhorse with every mouthpiece they make. Pretty much what I use on everything. Tender Touh just looked like too much bit for my horses.

The tender touch is a 5" bit, 3-piece mount piece with lifesaver. Doesn't seem like it would be too much heavier (if at all- but the shank is straighter) than the Jr. cowhorse, but the Touch Plus is a longer shank.

Interesting! I've been running my mare in a Tender Touch but rode her (just slow work) in the Cow Horse the other day and she also liked it and I like the way the shanks are set. Wanted to hear from others as well! I don't know if the Shanks on the Cowhorse give it more flex and lift? I'm debating which one to run in.

Interesting post because I CANNOT ride any horse in a Tender Touch, but it's practically all my husband will ride in! I have no issues with a Jr Cowhorse lol

I've run my mare in a snaffle and tender touch, but would like something with a little more lift than a snaffle and a little more flex than the tender touch. Was going to try the Jr Cowhorse. The simplicity is too much bit for her. I'm having a hard time deciding. She runs well in the tender touch but it's not 100% what I'm looking for. I'm too much of a perfectionist I think. I should just stick with what's working but...

the junior cow horse will give you more bend than the TT. I use it a good bit for colts coming out of a snaffle and I've never had one not like it. It's a very "forgiving" bit thanks to the angle of the shanks and the way the gag is built. The TT requires a little more sharpness from a jockey. It's more instant... if that makes any sense?!

I have a jr cowhorse with the small ported chain if anyone is looking. Brand new! Didn't seem to work with my hands. Rode a light mouthed sensitive mare in the TT way back when and she liked it.

I am going to be the ODD man out... I DO NOT like either of those bits. I don't like how they are constructed, you don't have much "feel" in either of them, I don't like the straight bars and I don't think they are balanced. I do not have either of them nor do I recommend them for my cleints. BUT I also own 14 Dave Elliot bits... so its really hard for me to ride in bits that have very little "feel" and weight to them. I ride my very sensitive free runner in a Tender Touch with the life saver mouthpiece. As far as warming up, she can be a bit testy with it right at first- some head flinging and what not. But during a run she responds perfect to it! I think its light enough to where it doesnt disrupt her focus but still has a little bit of bite when I need her to rate down. So far I've been very pleased with it. Ive gone through several bit changes and this was has worked the best. Oh I wanted to add that I've rode this same mare in a Jr Cowhorse. She warms up very nice with it but the few times a ran her in that bit, she was too free running.
