Renew Gold production dates

I have gotten a lot of calls about dating on the new Renew Gold bags. When we went to the new tougher poly bags the company that made them put the bag production date on the top white sewn on strip. They all are dated either June, July or August of 2016. This date is not the manufacture date of the Renew Gold, but represent when the empty bag was made. Future bags will not have this misleading date on the top strip, but for now we are answering calls almost every day from people who are concerned that they are buying old product.
To read the actual production date on a Renew Gold bag, please look at the back bottom of the bag. For Renew Gold purchased east of the Rocky Mountains, or from any Tractor Supply, there will be a code printed in ink on the bottom sewn white strip. The first number will designate the year, 7 represents 2017. The next three will be the Julian Calendar day of the year. 001 is January 1st, through 365 which is December 31st. An example would be like this. Today is the 101st day of the year. Renew Gold made today would be coded 7101D. The D designates that it was made in our Dalton Ohio facility.
Renew Gold sold on the West Coast will have a small white sticker on the lower rear of the bag with the code printed slightly differently. On those bags the day will be printed first and then the year. Renew Gold made today will read 1017 as the first four numbers. There are additional numbers following on these tags, but those first ones are the only ones you need to know the production date.
So, If you want to know when your RG was made, please ignore the printing on the top strip, and look to the lower back or bottom of the bag.
I hope this helps. Win

Yep, that was a bit confusing when I saw those bags! Then I found the the production date. Thank goodness my local Tractor Supply is FINALLY keeping it in stock. I've been feeding horses for a lot of years and Renew Gold is fantastic. Just in case anybody asks, I feed it with alfalfa pellets, alfalfa and coastal hay.
