I have a 4yo that is just starting to get things figured out. However, he seems to take extra steps on the backside of the barrel and really pause before he takes off. What are some exercised to get a horse to be snappy, and continue forward motion around the backside. I've seen alot of girls who have beautiful runs, but their horse hesitates for a spit second on the backside, and it adds so much time to their runs. I know that in order for a fast run there can be no hesitations/pauses at all. So what can I do to fix this? TIA

I have also dealt with a similar issue. I found that a lot of it sorted itself out with time, especially as they "found their legs" and figured out foot placement. I found working with ground logs to be helpful. You can place them next to a barrel and work your circles around the barrel and over the log and different speeds.

This drill video may also be helpful.

Jordan Briggs is the one to beat right now and I think she is here to stay. Good video.

Thank you! I will try this. He's still at the long legged akward stage, so I'm hoping some of it he'll get figured out on his own.
