Location: Somewhere across the SABINE | I have a friend that her daughters horse only bleeds at a show. They run her and breeze her at home. She runs harder at home than she does at shows
She asked me why that happened, i really havent messed with a lot of bleeders so I couldnt help her other than referring to a vet |

| Mine also has only bled out at shows. The adrenaline and nerves at shows increases blood pressure which contributes to bleeding. We give my bleeder something to help keep his blood pressure down. |

Location: chasing kids and animals | If it is bc of blood pressure rising I wonder if I hidez mask will work? SUppose to help keep them calm which would keep blood pressure down. I know that bleeding out is a lung issue but just a thought. I have a horse that has bleed on me a couple times and only at a show. I took her to the vet and had her scoped and he told me that he sees no reaason for her to bleed. Sooo I am wondering too if that may be the cause of it bc the day she bled bad she was fired up more than normal. |

| High blood pressure is not the only cause, they really don't know why they bleed. One theory is the concussion that travels up the leg causing the blood vessels to vibrate against the lungs and burst. I don't know of any horse that bleeds that has a physical defect that can be seen with a scope. Maybe a displaced pallet comes to mind.
EIPH happens in a lot of horses, they just don't bleed out. |

Location: Nebraska | Have they scoped her after running at home? I wonder if she still bleeds but the stress is less so she doesn't bleed as much? |

They are trying to decide if they should scope after running at home first or just after the shows |

For peace of mind, I would do it after both, but if I couldn't afford to do it 2 times, then after the race since that is when she doesn't fire as hard. |

| Are you sure she doesn't bleed at home? They have to be bleeding BAD for you to be able to see it. Most of our bleeders, we only know that after getting them scoped. Whenever we have one shutting down, we get them scoped for blood. If you have one that's bleeding bad enough to see, they are tearing their lungs...and shouldn't be breezed or ran for 90 days. I would agree with what others have said =] Scoped and have vet out =] Good luck! |

Yes, and we took him swimming, he would come out of the pool breathing much much harder than he ever did after a run, never bled. I even swam him and took him straight to the vet for scoping, no bleeding. We added swimming to his exercise program because it helps bleeders if they are in great shape. |
