I'm trying to help a friend figure out how to protect herself
(buyer
) and the seller in the purchase of a mare. She want's to make payments. The mare has a foal by her side that will belong to the seller so the mare will stay with the seller until the foal is weaned.
A contract is good and insurance. But the dollar amount of the purchase is not large enough to meet the minimum for insurance to want to mess with it. Is there a way to pay the money to an escrow company and the papers and transfer be submitted too, until the foal is ready to wean and the mare can go to her new home?

I would contact an equine attorney or ag attorney in your area and ask for an initial meeting to see where you should go from here. Most attorneys will see you for free to give advice. I think the most I've ever paid for legal advice was $50 without any action from the attorney. It was worth it.
