Gastroguard is a prescription medication formulated to
treat
Gastric Ulcers.
Ulcerguard is an over the counter medication for the
prevention
of gastric ulcers.
Cost of Gastroguard for treatment is $32-$40/ tube
(1.8mg/lb/day
) Total Cost: $960-$1200
Cost of Ulcerguard for prevention is $33-$37/ tube
(.45mg/lb/day for the rest of their lives according to most Veterinarians. Alternatives are available for daily prevention that are much cheaper.
) Cost Per Month Calculated with 4 doses per tube: $264-$296/month.
An Average size horse will get one tube per day of Gastroguard for one month for treatment of ulcers. Horses can then be scoped to make sure all ulcers are clear to then start a preventative such as Ulcerguard.
Here it is straight from the horses mouth to prove my information:

The dosage. Ulcergard has 4 doses per tube. Gastrogard is one dose per tube.

Both products are identical. Just labeling. Supposedly you need a vet to tell you it's ok to give whole tube of ulcerguard. Lol
