If it is an actual trade, best thing to protect both parties is to make a payment to each other and just eat the fees. That way if one saddle or the other doesn't show up or isn't as described, the person has a way of getting refunded.

This is how we do Saddle Trades if you are trading straight across.

If you are not trading straight across always use paypal invoice and always upload the tracking number. (Always get a tracking number and insurance on the package.)

Has anyone ever done it? Would you do it again?

I would do some research on the person first before doing trades.

I have traded lots of times, but one time I was a bit too trusting and the individual I traded with tried to steal and sell my saddle, recalled whatever she sent (I didn't even get to see the box, could have been empty for all i know) and it took me about 1 1/2 months to get my saddle back. I got very lucky because I had friends who I used to barrel race with who had moved to her area, and knew her personally. I had her address, her phone number etc. and when I called the Sheriff's office, I didn't even have to say her name to know who I was talking about. She was quite famous in the area for this type of behavior. It was a nightmare that I wish no one will ever go through. She also used her real name, so I went to all of her websites she had tack posted and contacted the owners.. let them know who they were dealing with and they refused to do business with her anymore. It was only after that that she sent my saddle back, telling me it was crap and she couldn't use it. It was still in the same condition I sent it, but it was a nightmare. She even had me do a Paid of Delivery for MY saddle that she stole, in order for me to get it back from the post office. So I sent her a canceled check, and she had the audacity to message me to tell me how horrible -I- was for sending her a canceled check and she had to pay the post office.

But trades after that, I tell them they must ship to me first and once I receive the saddle then I will send mine. I have plenty of references and I provide any info they require to be comfortable, as I know -I- am an honest person. If they are not comfortable, I will completely understand but I will not do it any other way just because of what I went through. I hope that yours goes well!!
