A lot of big chain restaurants give a 10% discount along with hotels.

We had to get it in order to get our supplement insurance for Medicare through United Healthcare.

I found a good deal on a rental car once..

I don't like the political crap with it BUT we camp at Ohio state parks and I figure I can save about 600.00 this year with the discount

You're so right...We had to go with them when my husband retired to keep me on his insurance and he doesn't want to change now that we can because we haven't had any problems with the supplement we get through them.

Joined to get the supplemental ins. as stated above.  Haven't used any other services.
The supplemental is the bomb!!!  Had to use it last year on hubby.  Not a penny out of pocket!
That's why I like them.

AARP is basically a wing of the progressive Democrats, just like NAACP and Planned Parenthood.
There is an alternative that I've heard a lot about. We're going to look into it. Mark Levin is a smart, serious guy, and here's what he says:

AARP is a marketing company. They market life insurance for New York Life and Medicare supplements, advantage plans and Rx plans for United Healthcare.

You do not have to be a member of AARP to buy from either company.

They both sell to non members of AARP thru other channels.

If the AARP membership gives yo discounts on something you use then it could be worth the membership fee?

As for UHC med sups, they are among the highest cost plans out there and rarely a good deal. With the exception of the state of Florida. They are very competing in Fl

Buy you med sup on price. They are the exact same plan with every company. By law. Plan F is exactly the same no matter what company. Same for G, N, etc.

Medicare advantage plans can be different but not supplements.

AMAC is also a marketing company. Are they of value to you? Might be, might not be.

I do see AMAC talking the changing of everyone's Medicare number next year.

Don't see that getting much discussion. I do know it's going to be a claims nightmare for several years.

We've been told by others that the supplement plans are all the same but we have had too many friends that have had problems with their claims getting paid through other companies.

Medicare advantage plans can be different but not supplements.
We've been told by others that the supplement plans are all the same but we have had too many friends that have had problems with their claims getting paid through other companies.

I understand. And I've heard those stories too. But it's just not the case. Medicare supplement plans are the same by law. Not similar, "exactly" the same. That quore comes from the Medicare and You booklet that every medicare beneficiary gets every year.

People do confuse Medicare Advantage plans and supplements all the time.

I hear that almost every day. Someone will tell me who they have their "medicare supplement" with and then show me their card. They will have a medicare Advantage plan. I tell them that is a Medicare Advantage plan and not a supplement. They will say, "same thing". No, it's not. But the general public does think that way.

And there are problems with advanatage plans on what and how they pay and also many having networks. There is a huge variable between advantage plans. Even within the same company. Someone maight have  PFFS advantage plan with Humana and another person might have a PPO advantage plan with Humana and they will have vastly different coverage.

But if they have a supplement with Humana they will have exactly the same plan as anyone else with any other company.

Many companies sell both supplements and advantage plans. Advanage plans are sold by county as well. It's entirely possible for a person that lives in the county next to yours to have more advantage choices.

That's not possible with supplements. Doesn't matter the county or the company. If you have plan F, for just one example, it's exactly the same coverage and paid exactly the same. The only difference will be the premium.

And also with supplements you have to medically qualify to change plans. Once you become convinced that the only difference is price you can't just change to the lower premium because you want to. If you can't medically qualify then you are stuck in that plan.

And you can change supplement plans any time you want if you qualify medically. Advantage plans you can only change once a year. But there's no medical qualifications except for ESRD.

There are exceptions to what I just posted called SEP's. Special Election periods. And you can buy a med sup with no medical questions for 6 months when you are 65 and first get part B.  And that's from any plan by any company in your state.

Some statesdon't even allow for the tobacco question to be asked in that initial 6 month period.

Thanks for the alternate site, I am 63 and have just refused to join AARP. I don't trust easily and I keep my life as simple as I can.

Waste of money in my opinion and when they rolled over for Obamacare I shucked them forever.

AMAC is a much better option. You won't find this organization shilling for the Democrat party. You'll get the same discounts as with AARP.
