Having a problem trying to fit my horse. Everything I have tried on him seems to have too much rock. I've had a couple on him and they seem to fit nicely while he is standing, no pressure points when you run your hand down the under the bars. Then walk him off and it looks like I just put a rocking chair on his back.
I had a charmayne james on trial and that was the closest thing I have found to fit him. It was still wanting to pop up in the back a little bit, but wasn't horrible.
Any suggestions for saddles? Or help in fitting him? I don't have any fitters around me and the only tack shop close enough I could haul him too to try saddles mostly has heavy ranch saddles and tucker/circle y trail saddles. I was looking at an older coats, then I had Larry Coats looks at some pictures of his back and he said I need the newer tree with more rock to it.... so I really have no idea

Contact Felicia Carlton Peloquin on Facebook or her website is Horsetackworld.com.

She is a saddle fitting whiz! Seriously.

I know she's at NBHA Youth World right now...so be patient if she doesn't get back to you right away.

How thick is the pad you have on him right now?

Can you get a pic of the saddle w/o the pad on him?

Unfortunately I don't have the saddle anymore. At the time I had it on trial he was having some issues and I didn't even know if he'd be rideable again so I sent it back.

Okay.  One thing that crossed my mind is the twist could be a little narrow and maybe a thinner pad would allow the middle to sit down on him better.

That is what I was wondering too. The pad was a pretty worn 3/4" classic equine. That or maybe the gullet was just too wide?
I wish I had a dozen saddles here I could just try them all on him!

Your horse is pretty thick, too.  If he were mine, I would be using no thicker than 1/2" thick pad.

I have a reining type mare that is really round - I use 3/8" pad with a back on track liner underneath. That is the thickest I can get on her w/o saddle roll.

I'd also play around with cinches, too, in your search, because I have horses that carry the saddle differently, depending on the cinch -some cinches I know some horses don't like.

Your horse looks pretty quarter-horsey "stoudt". How about a Lisa Lockhart? Judging by his shoulder, you may only need a regular tree. But, then again you never know until you put it on.

(I currently have a WIDE lisa lockhart for sale but that may be too wide for your guy, judging by the one picture.)

But her saddles are meant to fit that  round quarter horse type of build which kind of looks like your guy. Circle Y Flex2 Lisa Lockhart
