What are your favorite saddle/pad/gullet combos for a round, short backed horse with no withers?
The saddle "fits" (no pinching) but it doesn't want to ride level.  I have a 8" gullet on her now. She isn't that wide really he is just one size all the way around and right now it is even worse because she has had some time off and she gained some weight. I'm not 100% sure it isn't the pad I have been using. I am going to try some different pads to see if that helps.

Just curious on everyone else's experiences. My last mare was like this and I found a pad that worked perfect for her and fixed the problem, does that pad help with this mare? Of course not! lol So back to the drawing board...

Does your horse run downhill? Older horse? I have a 4 year old that is so round and not much in the wither department and she is still a little downhill. I use a wide Semas and a Coats balance pad and shim just a little bit. Hopefully she will grow out of this.

Not much help on the saddle side but I prefer the thinnest pad I can get away with on a round horse. A 1/2" 5 star or a saddleright etc. something that allows a well fitting saddle to really fit down on them and not on top of them - if that makes sense.

I've personally not had good luck with the CSI on rounder ones, I feel like I'm riding on top of them and not down on them. Plus I think it feels like it wants to roll.

1/2" 5 Star pad and a roping saddle!! lol
I have a round mare without withers and that is the only combo I've found that feels stable on her. And luckily she will let me ride her in a Neoprene girth to help the saddle stay put.

I am currently using an Ammerman and a Thinline pad. So far so good.

I used a 1/2" best ever on my old horse because he was built like a barrel. I used to tell people he was like saddling a propane tank. The key to him was always a wool or felt pad that was two pieces stitched together. Like the ESP or the Sensor Flex that are one whole piece would roll right off!!

I have been having great success with my Corriente and a 3/4" or 1/2" 5 Star. My friend has the same experience. I know I've said before about the wide array of horses they fit.

I have a flat backed mare, a big round mare with muttony withers, and an older, prominently withered, under muscled top line. Fits all three wonderfully with different pads.

In addition to those three, it has fit a race built, narrow, high withered thorobred. A brick house, wide as she was tall, quarter horse with no withers who was built slightly downhill. My friend rides her three horses in one. A HUGE gelding, almost draft built, very wide and flat backed, mutton withered. A narrow built, high withered gelding. And a race built, decent withered gelding.

I can't speak enough about these saddles and recommend them highly.

I'm getting by with a Saddleright and Shiloh Jerri Mann with a 6 3/4 gullet.  Not ideal, but he's comfortable and I love that saddle.  I'm having a Shiloh built with 7 1/4" gullet and flatter bars that's supposed to fit this body type.

She's 4. Thankfully she isn't down hill. She actually feels like she travels uphill.

I had been using a Molly Powell pad. I tried a 5 Star 3/4 I have and that helped but I'm thinking I need a 1/2. I sat it on her with just a liner and it was 100 different. The 3/4 was a big improvement.
