What kind are preferred for just riding, as in keeping legged up.  No Rocky Mountain adventures, concrete, barrel racing, etc, just everyday  riding a somewhat tender footed horse.  Looks like several different types in each brand to choose from.  Suggestions?

I'm talking hoof boots, not leg protection.

I've just been through a lot of trials and research on this. First of all, the shape of your horse's hooves will be the biggest factor in what brand will work. Measure their hooves right after a trim according to the guides on the hoof boot manufacturers' websites (they all measure from the same place). Easy boots cater to the more common hoof shapes, where the hoof is slightly longer than wide or they do have some models that come in wide widths, which accommodate hooves that are equally long and wide. Easy boots website also has a trial program where for I believe it's $12 they will mail you 3 sizes of boot shells to try. Their Back Country and Trail models look the nicest to me.

The problem I have with easy boots is in my experience, they are NOT easy to size correctly or to get on and off. At least the slimmer fitting models or the shells. I broke a hoof pick trying to get one off my horse!

Cavallo's on the other hand are SO simple to get on and off, easy to fit. There's a reason they call them simple boots. I LOVE them. Also if your horse happens to be like mine and have hooves that are wider than they are long, don't even bother with any other brand (renegades are the only other that cater to this hoof shape but at $100 a boot, and a more complicated design, they seem to be more for serious trail and endurance riders). I haven't had them for a long time, nor have I given them a good test in harsh conditions, but so far so good.

Another really neat boot is the Scoot Boot. They don't work for my horse's hoof shape, but I've heard a LOT of good things about them and they would be my first choice to try if they fit him.

Thank you!  Good to know.  This horse has hooves like platters, so Cavallo might be the way to go.
