Things to see between Phoenix and Vegas...
Married to a Louie Lover

We are planning our honeymoon trip to Vegas this December. We have a hotel room in Vegas for 5 nights the 7th-12th and we're trying to decide how to want to get there.
Hubby is not a huge fan of flying
(he's a little happier that I told him you can take on the mini bottles of alcohol
) and I'm not a huge fan of budget airlines
(I have pilot friends and have heard to many horror stories
).
He doesn't want to have to connect and the only direct flights for us are on budget airlines.
So we're thinking about flying direct to Phoenix and renting a car, taking our time getting up to LV and exploring.
So between Phoenix and LV what are the must see's? Neither of us has been to the Grand Canyon so I'm even thinking about extending the trip or dropping a night in Vegas and getting a room in Flagstaff so we can explore there and go up to the Canyon. I really enjoyed trail riding when I was out in Cave Creek a few years ago, if anyone has any recomendations for good outfitters with outstanding scenery we'd be down for that too. We might try and see the Hoover Dam too
We aren't big gamblers or the shop until you drop type
(the only things on our shopping list are buying quality straw cowboy hats, and maybe some new leg boots if we find a deal! I want to sit in a few different saddles
).
Any other must see's?

If you are taking the route that goes over the dam, that is pretty neat, and the dam is definitely worth at least a quick stop.
I'm not a big Vegas fan but I do think it's cool to fly into Vegas after dark because all the lights are really amazing to see.

The dam is about it.
Honestly sitting near the door of any casino in Vegas is like WalMart watching on acid. Good times.

Yeah I didn't think I saw much on the "direct" route between the 2.
We're talking about flying into Phoenix and driving to Flagstaff and spending the night there. Then going to the Grand Canyon and the dam before ending up in Vegas.

The Skywalk is between Kingman and Las Vegas. You get 3 stops on that tour of the Grand Canyon. You park, get on a bus and they take you to an old western town, then the Sky Walk and Guano Point. So you get to see the Canyon from three different points. Lunch is included in the tour price. My son and I went to the sky walk. It was amazing.
If you are really adventurous, they also have helicopter flights
(I know hubby doesn't like to fly
). If you were going in the summer you could raft the colorado river though the canyon.
