Location: Texas | I'm looking for a waterproof winter blanket with a larger neck opening so my horse can graze while wearing one. Does anyone know where I can find one? Prefer velcro if possible. Thanks |

this is my ABSOLUTE favorite. I love it so much I bought all my horses one, and threw out all of the others!
I am a lazy blanketer, so I LOVE the closed front. I LOVE the bellyband (Keeps more surface area nice and toasty!) and I love the adjustable shoulders. AND the v free withers - keeps from rubbing out their mane!
My ONLY complaint, is they only come in black :(
PS - if you LOVE it to, keep an eye on them as winter approaches. I have not paid $150 for ANY of mine. I think with discounts and stuff, the most i paid was $117 and got free shipping. |

| Love my schneiders as well. I have all the v-free ones for my quarter horses. My favorites are the regulators. And I like the tekno fleece for the in between weather. |

Location: Illinois | I used to use Schneiders blankets & I liked them. However I have one of those ones who shreds 2-3 blankets a year so I switched to the SmartPak line bc they have free replacements and it's a lot more cost effective for me. When I was using the Schneiders I used to call to order and asked if they had any of the old discontinued styles available for discount. I always got mine for around $50 plus shipping if they had my size. Doesn't hurt to call and ask! |

Location: Texas | I just today ordered a Turtleneck "Snapping Turtle" it was on sale for $159 for both the blanket and the neck cover. I had a Turleneck Ice Turtle before and it was the best blanket that I had ever bought. http://www.turtleneck.biz/
I forgot to add, these blankets come down on the sides farther than some cheaper blankets that I had bought in the past. The cheaper ones left part of his belly hanging out! My horse is very large! Sz 80. Also, the shoulder gussetts are a must-have for him. He also stays turned out. So, you might consider that when choosing a blanket.

Has anyone used the Hilason brand winter blankets?
If Hilason makes blankets like they make saddles, they'll be very cheaply made. IMO.
You'd be better off sticking with Schneiders or Smart Pak. |

ETA I've had all my winter blankets for 5ish years. All of mine have a medium weight and then a no fill sheet I put over that. The sheets keep the heavier blankets from being bogged down and typically if anything rips its the cheaper sheet not the expensive blanket. But honestly I have not had to replace a blanket in years.

Location: MN | Hands down Rambo! My horse has shredded every other brand BUT his Rambo. He tore his Schneider's to shreds, thank goodness it was still under warrenty and they replaced it! That was nice. So that one is my backup if his Rambo ever gives out but fingers crossed, it'll make it thru this winter! 4 years and going strong! |

Location: Where the buffalo roam | Rambo is the way to go. I had always bought Schneiders, Saxons, etc and had tears by the end of the year and could occasionally limp them through 2 years, but rarely three. I bought my first Rambo over 5 years ago and it does not have a tear and has remained waterproof through Montana winters and springs. I did send it to have it clearn and re-waterproofed for the first time this year. Since that time I have rolled all my other horses over to the Rambos and even my super destructive horse cannot destroy one (so far). Yes, they are expensive up front ( think my first one was $350), but I figure I spent more on buying new cheap blankets every year than keeping the same blanket for this long and only having maintenance once in five years. The other great thing about them is that when your horse rolls and jumps back up, they shake right back into place. All other blankets (no matter what brand - even Weatherbeetas) would always hang off to one side and I constantly had to adjust. |

Location: Where the long tails flow, ND | I've had a lot of luck with the new Weatherbeetas. The new fronts are fantastic, they have seat belt like buckles almost, and padding around withers and front of chest to keep everything comfortable and not constricting. |
