Do any of you all feed your horses free choice. Like omnis cubes a huge tube and just fill when it gets close to empty or all the alfalfa hay
If so how much does one horse go thru in a day?
thanks

I don't, but the rep I spoke to about Omnis cubes does. She said they will gorge themselves the first few days but once the realize it's not going anywhere they chill out. I don't remember what she said exactly but I want to say it evened out to about a bucket per horse per day. Like the 2.5 gal buckets we mix feed in. I want to do free choice but my horses are in a pasture and I like that they have to come get in stalls to eat twice per day, makes it easier to catch it when I have to doctor a horse -etc.

My friend was told this also, that they would slow down but hers never did, they were eating a 50 lb bag in 2-3 days. She quit trying to free feed it.

In the winter we free feed alfalfa
(round bales
). We don't use hay nets because our horses still have shoes on. Our horses eat more the first couple days but then slow down. One round bale lasts about 3 weeks for 3 horses.

Me personally I do not feed the Omnis cubes free choice. I have a mare that would literally stand there and eat it all day in day out. They are all on pasture and I give them some hay just for variety but I do not feed that free choice either just when the pasture is drying out
(like it is now
).

Free choice Alfalfa. We feed round bales so it's kind of hard to say how much each horse gets.
