We are taking him to vet tommorrow as soon as they open. There is an obvious bulge almost hand size on back of leg that appears to be involving the hamstring. He is obviously lame. I feel so bad for my friend and thought I could get any info regarding this type of injury.

My horse has been off all year due to a pulled hamstring and a stress fracture on the tip of his pelvis at the point of buttocks area. He actually fell at the vet. He was sedated and sat down on his right hip. 1000 lbs dead weight. He needed 5 months off and is slowly being brought back to riding.  They can ultrasound the area to see what is going on after they do a lameness.

My goodness! Bless your heart! My prayers are with you and your horse. Thank you for answering my
post. We have no idea whatsoever how or what happened to this horse. He was by himself. All we know till vet checks him is that he has a bulge in same area as you mentioned and is lame. We stalled him and applied sore no more along with some pain meds till vet can see him early in the morning. No obvious other things except the bulge that feels like a big puffy swelling.

I work at vet clinic part time and pulled hamstring that I have seen is that it feels like a guitar string best I can explain. So hopefully not a pulled hamstring. Not sure if a pulled hamstring looks like a bulge.

I haven't heard this morning yet what the vet has determined. But that gave me a little hope that maybe it's not a hamstring and hopefully not too serious.

TACKyPaints had a mare that tore her hamstring a few years ago, she would probably be a good resource for information.

It looked BAD! And he was three legged. I am so thankful for this blessing. His rider loves him like love ice cream.
