| Opinions/ experiences? Is this going to be a big thing or nah? I was told by a barrel racer friend of mine (older lady) that she thinks it's going to blow up like future fortunes. |

I don't think it will compete with FF... I liked the PBRIP for my 2016 futurity colt. The BFA Juvenile, what was previously the LG Pro Classic, and the Panty Raid all had the paint incentive with money added. It was nice for my horse that was already going to attend these event to have a chance at bringing home at least one check (small or not) lol. It pays decent for a small entry fee like a side pot. I don't think I will enroll in it again because I think the fees aren't worth what the return will be for me being that I will only run one show with that horse that is PBRIP versus three+. |

Location: SE KS | I sent in my fees and application, to be informed that since my horse was registered in mine & my husbands name, I needed to transfer him into just my name to compete. That blew it for me, another fee as some said.
On a side note, there are several races in my area that have a PBRIP side pot, that I would have entered. |

| If your Paint barrel horse is advanced and fast enough to win tough, divisional races in Texas, you might actually win enough to cover your Paint membership, PBRIP membership, and your entry fee. My Paint is a 4D horse here in tough Texas competition, and I've entered PBRIP in the BRAT races here in north Texas. The sidepot is a $25 entry fee, and basically, unless you are the fastest Paint at the event, you win your entry fee back.
I used to pay the ridiculous fees to qualify and compete in various world championship breed shows, but I got my world championships and I'm done with it. The numerous fees are ridiculous.
I would like to say hats off to BRAT though. I would say they have done more for the PBRIP entries than most. They offer the incentive at every race, and they have wonderful prizes for top 5 at season end. |

Location: East Texas | For yearly standing you need to be in some of the areas and local assoc. that have PBRIP races (which are limited) to be in the running. We have a few around here (East Texas), and if there is a PBRIP side pot we will enter. We also went to the world show a couple of years ago and the PBRIP race paid pretty good. We have prob. made more than we have paid, and we have a 2D/3D kind of horse. |

| The PBRIP is not a program to win large amounts of money. It's basically an additional forum to showcase your paint, help make a record for your horse without using the horse show path. However at the world show it allows you to enter both if you want. With that being said, if you placed in the futurity or sweepstakes you did win a nice check. It has been a discussion about how expensive it is to go, but it's something you choose or not to do with your horse. Also, for year end points to win a saddle, I have done it twice....I chose to just go to the jackpots for points only and those are cheaper if your interested in point chasing.
Overall I enjoy it and all I ride are paints and I have my personal reasons for doing it.

| APHA does not have a "finals" for PBRIP. You can enter the PBRIP Sweepstakes. Which sort of resembles a 4D. At least they call it a 4D. They advertise it as having about $7500 added money. About $2000 goes to the fastest time period. There are actually two separate barrel races. One is for the regular registry horses. The other is for solid paints. Which they don't feel are good enough to run with the regular registry paints. Sort of stepchildren. That means that the remaining $5500 or so is split between the two races. Each race then is for about $2750 added money. The entry fee is $200 which is kind of steep for that amount added. The points for each D at local events is not real fair either and I am not going to even try to explain that. I paid into the PBRIP side pot at a large barrel race. There was $500 added. Entry fee was $60. I won the 4D and got $57. Also APHA keeps a part of the entry fee. My horse is regular registry and he has gotten a lot more recognition for being Top ten on the world in Barrels than he ever will in PBRIP. ( horse in my avatar). Please excuse me if I made a typo sometimes it happens. |

| PBRIP sidepots that pay out at a race that is PBRIP approved - $10 per runner goes back to APHA for the program. How much the entry fee is for that race is decided by the producer putting it on and they also are responsible for the payout percentages.
If it's a points only race - $2 goes to PBRIP and the producer had to pay $25 for the PBRIP approval so the producer may charge $5 or what ever they feel necessary to cover their costs.
At the world show PBRIP sweepstakes is on NBHA format so it is a 4d. The solid paint bred sweepstakes get $2500 added as well as the regular registry get $2500.
Solid and regular futurity classes get $1250 each added.
Fastest time overall at PBRIP World Show gets a $2000 bonus and the fastest futurity horse I believe gets $1000 bonus .
Fastest open world show class + PBRIP time wins a saddle and this year it was won by a solid paint bred.
The year end awards also includes an added money 4d race which was in Guthrie Oklahoma in 2017 and was in Fairfield Texas the two previous years.

| Thank you guys for all of the education! The horse I have left to ride (unless he sells before it gets cold) is double registered solid paint (no real paint blood in him...). He is only 2. I do not have his paint papers yet. Only QH. He is also Appendix QH. I want to get his full QH papers one day and I know that means QH points. I'll have to look more into what that entails too. I'm just wondering if it is worth it to get paint papers and run the barrels with the paints? We are in OKC, OK area so I'm not sure barrel race locations but I just thought the PBRIP would be something to learn about. I project this horse to be pretty friggin nice. Has the makings of a 1D horse. Size/motor/brain/breeding. However, if he stays with me he will not futurity because that costs lots of $ I don't have and running a young horse scares the CRAP out of me (soundness). Any opinions on if the paint thing is worth chasing or not are welcome lol. This horse will probably be my only mount until my weanling is of age so I have lots of time & effort to put in him. I just don't want to waste my money. |

Also it is a 4 and 5 year old futurity so it isn't too terribly hard on them being young.

The point I was making was that the added money from APHA was split between the two barrel races. That makes the entry fee a little high for a small amount of added money. Around here the entry fees are less than $40 for that amount of added money.
