| So what are the best stallion programs out there? There are so many out there, how do you choose what is best for your stallion? We have looked at FF, but don't like the fact they they opened enrollment to any stallion with more than 25 foals, we are concerned with Robin Hoffman having left the BBR and how that will affect the Select stallions and we have never done one like Triple Crown that requires a donated breeding.
So stallion owners, what big programs do you enroll in and what are your thoughts about the things I listed?
What smaller programs are the best payout? |

| Funny thing, I was just looking at Future Fortunes. Why are foal owners not paying into this program. I know that there have to be more than one foal by some of these stallions in the past several years??? What is the point in breeding to a FF stallion? Not trying to steal your thread thought this might bring out some comments. |

| No problem. Any questions you ask will benefit others as well. I just wish we would get more response.
But I agree, they spend a ton of money getting into FF and spend it every year and then no one enrolls their foals.... FF is expensive and if no one is running for the money, it's an expensive waste.

| I think it depends on your end goal...is it to get some name recognition or sell breeds? If it is for name recognition I think a nice full page ad in BHN Stallion register would be more effective for about the same price with much less of a headache. If its to sell breeds, it better be a program that is desirable to mare owners. |

| Robyn Herring has told me repeatedly that the way her horse got the most recognition was running him. I have seen people stop what they are doing to go watch him run. Get a few babies out there that are winning futurities and there you go. |

| We want our stallions in programs, just looking to get opinions on the big 3 and some of the smaller ones. We will be advertising and running as well, but the whole idea of the post was to get feedback on these programs. |

If your not planning to go to a FF race, such as there are NONE around you, why bother honestly. If you want a rodeo horse, not push for a aged event, save the money really. That's my opinion. I have booked to FF stallions and I wont put the money there because there is no return for me.
NOW that is just my opinion and why I (ME) (PERSONALY) feel on the matter LOL |

This bothers me because it's $150 one time fee to nominate a foal to FF. Just because there aren't any shows in your area now doesn't mean there won't be. I live in an area where there weren't future fortunes shows in the past and now they are at least 2 in the state and a few more within 5-7 hours away. I remember when we had a stallion everyone wanted to know what incentives they were paid into and then when it came time for them to pay in or actually futurity the horse they didn't. Not all, but enough of them. That's frustrating. If you can't afford $150 one time nomination then why breed or ask for it??? Some day you might sell that foal and the new owner might really like that their horse is eligible. These events have no additional entry fee for breeders horses (typically).
The incentives are great. The ones you enroll in likely depends on your area. |

I can understand that, but I personally would rather put my money into a 50K+ pot than the 5K there is 1 FF money race up here in Canada. I have heard some of our top trainers say they look for Superstakes, but don't really search out FF foals, if they have it great if not it does not effect their decision, and I personally feel it does not add to the value of my foals.
Its just not a strong Canadian program IMHO. |

It concerns me too because I do intend to enroll my foal. There are more and more open barrel races that have Future Fortunes added money. I cannot keep all my horses and do plan to sell but if people really don't care if a foal is nominated I just get this impression that may buyers don't feel that a horse is worth more because it is enrolled in FF. So what I am getting at is what is the point in breeding to a horse that is FF if no one feels it is a selling point? |
