slight lameness :(

I ran 3 times this past weekend, horse seemed fine, but tonight when I let everyone in to feed I notice front right he's short striding, not head bobbing lame. So I immediately feel the leg all over, nothings hot or swollen. Lounged him for a short time and he's definetly stiffer on the right front. If an abcess were brewing, will he get progressively worse over the next day or 2? I have shoes on. Or would it be up in the shoulder? The thing that stinks is we were all leaving this Thurs night for nbha worlds. Uggg.. any suggestions/things I can look at and rule out before calling a vet? Thank you

kinda sounds to me like an abcess is brewing. You'll know it if hes got one. He could just possibly be tight somewhere, have you thought about having him massaged? I know my guy wont stretch out when hes tight and a quick massage fixes him right up. Hoping its something simple. I would cold hose and liniment every morning and night just to be on the safe side.

Since you're so close to leaving for World, I would call the vet. I wouldn't waste any time. I sure hope it's an easy fix for you! Good Luck!

Look to the opposite hind. He may be sore in the hocks and stifles and transferring his weight to the opposite front, making him look lame. Or it could be an abcess. Start poking around the bulbs of his feet and see if you get a reaction. Or if you have some hoof testers, test the hoof. Most times if it's an abcess they'll react.
