Location: IL | I've used Curost and it's just too expensive. Who uses this for their horses? Where do you buy and how much do you give? Any info would be great. |

Location: Smack Dab in the Middle | I seriously considered this, and still am truthfully. I did a lot of googling and talked to my vet, who likes to incorporate Chinese herbs and practices (she is certified in chiro and acupuncture) into her practice. The only concern I really found was a UK article, by a vet or professor--can't recall now, that stated it's not recommended to use NSAIDS with it. So, in my case, where I was hoping to use it for a daily anti-inflammatory, it would mean that IF my horse were to need a little more--say on race days, or over long weekends--I couldn't do that. No Previcox/Equiox, no Bute, no Banamine. I wasn't sure if that was going to be right for my guy. But, it's noteworthy that I read through numerous other articles that made no mention of that. So I am still researching and deciding if it's right for my horse.
ETA: I priced out several sizes and varieties (organic etc) on Amazon and it's very affordable that way.

I feed the curost total support and have always used a dose of previcox the day before and day of a race without any issues. maybe long term its not recommended? I do think curost is expensive and I am trying Tight Joints plus again. It has made my horses feel GOOOOOOOOOOOD. |

I do know about the bute/previcox use with turmeric, it's mentioned in many articles. I will say my husband has been taking turmeric for a couple months now and he feels great. He had problems with his feet and all the pain is gone along with swelling. I just don't know how well horses absorb the turmeric. Their systems are totally different than ours with absorbing things. I do want to try it, but don't know where to buy and dosage. I've been reading 1 tablespoon along with black pepper and coconut oil. |

Location: North Dakota | 2 TBS of turmeric, 1lb of rice bran and 10 grinds of black peppercorns and my older arthrtic gelding feels good.
Rice bran is my fat source. I have mixed this up and used oils, flax and renew gold along with it over the past year and it seems to all work the same. He stays feeling good for 25.
ETA: I buy the starwest botanicals brand of turmeric.

Is this per feeding? or per day? I haven't decided on a fat source for if I try it. Mine is so picky I'm a little scared to try...plus, I already have him on a very high fat diet. |

Location: The best kept secret in TX | Turmeric Life Australia Recommends the following on their website: Add a dessert spoon (to start with) of TURMERIC POWDER to your cup. Add approximately 16 grinds of freshly ground cracked pepper AND some 5-10 mls of oil (coconut, olive or linseed) to your turmeric powder. Add some water and blend into a paste that can be mixed through the bulk of your horses feed. |

Location: North Dakota | Interesting. I have NOT heard of the association between turmeric and bute/previcox until now.
I already feed my horse T.H.E. muscle mass (custom blend with joint/infllammation support) and I tried adding turmeric this past fall but I cannot say that I noticed anything. I also had him on Equioxx.
I got my turmeric in bulk on Amazon. It was really cheap. |

This is per day in his case.
If you already have a high fat diet, just add the turmeric and some black pepper. |

I already feed flaxseed, so I can just use the flax instead of adding another fat source? |

| I feed it to 10-15 horses daily. I have used curost and THE both worked really well I just had a run of bad luck and financially I had to cut some cost. So I mix my own stuff for now. I use it in place of bute if someone is sore or stiff and has worked really well. If fact in most cases it worked better than the bute had. I order from a place that all herbs are tested and verified so I hope I am getting what they say I am .

| Herbal Blend from Dac and Optimum Flex Plus. I feed these two. Herbal Blend night before and day of race, for pain and inflammation. Optimum Flex plus for joints. The good thing is they have a 60 day money back guarantee |

Location: the end of the rainbow | For the cost I've had really good luck with golden paste. I add a tablespoon of cheylated (sp) cinnamon to each batch. A double batch will last my 2 horses a week at about a tablespoon per feeding. You can get the spices at Missy's Spice Shop online or on Amazon. Sorry I can't resize the picture with the recipe on my phone. You can Google golden paste recipe & find it, it's just water, tumeric & either coconut or Olive oil.
