Wood chewing help

My gelding
(along with 2 others
) is turned out in a 6 acre grass pasture. He gets fed 4 flakes of alfalfa per day plus a can of grain. BUT he has been chewing up the fence boards like crazy...I'm dumbfounded, because he never even chewed when he was stalled before? Any ideas of a deficiency, or a supplement that works to stop this? There's no way I'm "painting" anything on 6 acres of fences...thank you! Any advice is appreciated! I think my first step is to maybe try "Quitt" and Magnesium =/

Paint the wood with old motor oil and feed something like Farnams quitt. Or add a free choice vitamin mineral. If he has that much pasture he shouldn't be board. Chances are hes lacking something. How many pounds is a can of grain? He may not be getting enough of the minimum feed rate to get the vitamins/ minerals in the grain.
