Because you dont have enfough choices lol I LOVE my biofit pads they are my go to
I'm going to have to agree here. I was so excited to finally get my 5 star
(had to save my pennies
) and I've found the classic equine bio fits MOST of my horses better than the 5 star. The 5 Star
(3/4
) only fits my wide bodied/no wither fat horse. From everyone else comments, that doesn't seem to be the norm - but it was for me.
I borrowed a SPH pad and hated it - maybe it was too thick
(1 inch. - made my saddle sit too high and had too much sideways movement and really didn't care for the look on my longer big bodied horse
).
I'm still ISO a pad that I'm absolutely crazy about....

I don't know if she still does but Martha Josey's suggestion was always a Navajo blanket first and then a pad. The Navajo wicks the sweat. I always did that and found it worked well and provided plenty of padding plus the blanket was easy to wash. Josey has a lot of good suggestions to make your horse comfortable.

there must be a reason so many working cowboys have been riding that way with the navajo underneath the pad.... I do have two of those double weave or whatever they are called lol the double layer navajo saddle blankets. so maybe i'll do that and see how it works! i think mine are acrylic or blend though i know they aren't wool navajos.

The only problem I ever ran into was with a horse that was a little dished in the back right behind very high withers. The blanket didn't always want to conform especially right after it had been washed and had a mind of its own.

good point. i ordered a 5 star liner so maybe that can be used instead. i have seen contoured wool navajo blankets before so that might be an option for those with higher withers

We are big Saddleright fans- they are my favorite! My son needed a thicker pad for his calf horse and got a 5 Star. My daughter won a Reinsman Charmayne 11 that she seems to like on her barrel horse/Coates saddle.
Good News! We make a roping model for calf ropers, trippers and team ropers! It is the Legacy model. Check it out on our website !

Remove the pad liner from the 5 star and let the pad do what it's designed to do. I think once you get it broken in you will see why we love the 5 star pads. Clean it with the sponge after each use and it will literally last for ever.

I have a 5 star and a CSI. My 5 star I like but I tend to use my CSI more often.

I love the CSI pads. I have two. A 3/4 thick for my horse that has higher withers and a 1/2 for my other horse. I feel like they wear really well and fit a variety of saddles
