Location: Oklahoma		I am gonna do an experiment. I have pasture that is split. I have 2 horses. One I have had bout 10 years on the same side, I hardly ever get thrush, if he does only slightly and gone within couple treatments. The other side pasture I had a horse for 3 years and constantly battled thrush (he did have other problems going on), now I have another horse and I am battling it again and he only been there 5-6 weeks! Do you think it can be in my ground? if so what can I do? It may just be coincidental but I am sick of thrush! He has been in shoes most of his life and he is now barefoot and he had super skinny frogs and now they have widen quite a bit despite he getting thrush.

Location: Claremore, OK		A lot of times you’ll see chronic thrush in a horse with foot soreness, especially heel soreness. Since he does land on his heel it doesn’t clean out properly, doesn’t stand properly, making him more prone to the thrush. The narrow frog is a sign of the same thing.

Location: Oklahoma		That is interesting that you say that bout landing heels and the cleanout! When I was getting the best of the thrush I did notice that his feet was a lot cleaner and when its bad it is packed. I thought that might mean something but wasn't sure! My other horse barely ever has anything to clean out. Well I will just keep doing what I am doing. I know one thing you cant skip a day when treating thrush! Thank you so much Liana!

Shoes, no shoes? Diet differences? Regular hoof care?

My trimmer swears by fighting thrush from the inside out and making sure they are getting adequate copper and zinc in their diet.

Contracted heels can trap debris and nastiness in there and let it start to fester. It’s important that as the frog sheds the pieces are trimmed off so they don’t trap gunk either.
