I hate to sound ignorant but I want to ask before I drop $500 on a sheet.... My gelding wears a size 80 winter blanket, is it likely that’s the size he’ll need or do they run small/large?

All the years I sold PHT it was always measure from  the center of the chest to the center of the tail.  You definitely cannot go by the size winter blanket and etc that you use.  Someone correct me if it has changed!

Don't winter blankets measure from center of chest to center of tail as well though?

i would measure your horse just to be on the safe side. my guy normally wears a 72" blanket but the older style PHT 78" fit him perfectly.

Yes!!  That's why it always bugged me that that was their standard comeback to sizing questions!  My gelding who wears a 75 in EVERYTHING (Amigo, Weatherbeeta, BOT) needed an 80 PHT.  82 would actually prly fit him a little better.

That measuring is not always accurate. My horse should fit into at least an 80 and he needed an 84! It has to do with withers and shoulders that made it fit different than the measurements. Thank goodness you can take back and trade if doesn't fit.

Holy Crap! That's a huge difference! They must run super small

Mine too. He wears 80/81 in all other brands and needed an 84 and technically it could be 2" bigger.

So, it sounds like, despite their measuring directions (which are standard with all blankets I have ever seen--center of chest to center of tail), that the PHT run several inches small.

My horses wear exactly what they measure in PHT. My 16hh horse fits an 80 just fine, measures between 80-82 given on how fit he is.
My little 15hh bay I ASSUMED would be smaller LOL, measures 82. But the 80 also fits him so they share.
I have the last style before they released the copper sheets, and my understanding is that those "fit" more exact. So if I were going to buy one, I'd make sure to get the 82, the older styles are more forgiving.

I'll also say I have owned more than one blanket that specified to measure center of chest to SIDE of tail, so that's about a 2-3" difference, at least a whole size. But yes, most go to the center.

I measured and my pht blankets fit perfect. They actually ended up in their usual size, but I never measured before. Winter blankets can fit slightly big where as pht needs to fit perfect, so it’s more important to measure. It’s not that hard to do.

Most measure to the side of the hip. And turnout blankets are sized totally different.  As slowpoke said. Measure and if you have any questions give us a call

No they don’t. They run true to size. Winter blankets are all different. Some are true but like weatherbetta you need to go 3-4” smaller than measurement
