Expert Posts: 2385	I'm planning on starting up a Sliester bit collection and was hoping someone here can tell me more about them and what might add to their value. I heard the 5" mouthpiece is more desirable than the 4.5" but that's really all I know. I see them made from aluminium and stainless steel. Engraved and not engraved. If anyone can help me out and give me some pointers, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Regular Posts: 66	I used a sliester bit on my mare when I used to show, No. 28 Engraved 8 1/2" Stainless Steel Cheek. I had the plain and the engraved models. The engraved was my favorite was very flashy in the show ring. I used the plain one for practice. She loved the roller on them. It was loud but seemed to calm her nerves. I don't know if I would use that bit for barrels though. It really lifts them up with out much pressure and is heavy so it lowers their head, which was awesome for western pleasure and eq. classes.

Expert Posts: 2385	Charmayne James used one on Scamper but like I said in my post, I'm only collecting them. I have no intentions of using them in a horse's mouth.

Regular Posts: 66	I do remember her using one on Scamper, which I thought was neat. I probably could use them for running on my former finished horses. They are great bits very durable, last forever and easy to clean. They were the only bits my former trainer would buy. She loved them and had the different. They seem to really hold their value also. I would sell you mine but I want to hold on to them for a while :)
