Wanting to send my 5 yr old 17hh gelding to start on the pattern. I'm picky where he goes and i know not everyone wants to ride a big horse. Someone easy to ride behind. Any suggestions?

No idea! He has two full siblings that are 15.3 and 16.1. The 16.1 filly is still growing though!

Audie is 17 hands too right? I have a friend that had a beautiful 17.2 hand gelding that was the same breeding as Audie. She used him alot for showmanship and western pleasure and some type of english riding. Tell us the breeding on Audie, I cant exactly remember it, something like Zips Chocolate Chip I'm thinking, Sorry OP for getting off the question that you were asking,

Crystal Castleberry is pretty awesome. She's in Oklahoma (East Norman I believe) and I have seen her on some pretty tall horses. She takes good care of them, sends pics, let's you know if anything is going on. I definitely recommend her.

Size is not a problem. Its the willingness of the horse to learn. A big horse that rides like a little horse. Will work. I took tractor and piled up dirt in corner to get on.

Crystal had this guy for about 60 last year to get ready to start on the pattern, I've just been riding him since. She's a great trainer and i may send him back to her. I know she's booked up for a while so wanted to look at options :) One of the big horses you saw her with was probably this guy lol

just a tick under. He's by Chocolua (zips chic chip x TB mare) and out of a daughter of Artful Move x Docs Bodacious daughter. Very little TB and a lot if Poco Bueno in his extended lol. Corona Cartel is a shorty and FDD was what I would call average. Strange how some throw extra height.

My Pappasito is huge! I’m 99.9% sure my mares height comes from him based off of the height of the produce the dam of my mare has had.

As for the OP’s question, try messaging LianaD here on BHW. Andrea Moore Sewell would also be good.

The biggest horse that I've personally owned 16.3, was started by LianaD many years ago. I bought him after he had been sold, but that horse had the most solid foundation on a horse that I have ever dealt with. I absolutely loved him, if I was able I would send her any size horse....lol

LoL, I like the dirt piled up... I use a step stool for my 16.1 fella, I have crappy knees so need all the help I can get.. And I like what you said about size is not a problem and that is so true.

Oh okay, cool! She had mine for 90 days last year for seasoning and fine tuning. I remember when mine first got there, a lady brought in a huge 17.0 Bay/Black gelding.. I can't remember if he was started and needed finishing, or was finished and needed fine tuning lol

It was from May through July.

And Sewell is a good choice too! I highly considered her before picking Crystal. Crystal was just closer to me :)

Liana Deweese, she is the very best for foundation and has ridden plenty of larger horses.
