At home - no one gets boots Hauling: Colts - get polos on front first, then move to boots on front & polos on the back, then boots on the back as well if their turning style warrants it. Finished horses - Boots on all 4 during runs only. This is modified according to each horses' preference (I have had some that REFUSE to run with boots on the back). |

Location: N Texas | I do all four--he has an old tendon injury on his hind leg, so I use Icononclast boots on all four during runs so he has extra support. For regular riding and exercising, I don't put anything on. |

I think my gelding has this problem. I used to run him with nothing on the back, then he injured his hind tendon (not riding related) so I now use boots during our runs so he has the extra support. I feel like he doesn't run as hard, but it could be my imagination. He doesn't mind wearing them, I just don't feel like he's going all-out. I may need to breeze him with them on |

It's not my fault I'm perfect

Location: Where the long tails flow, ND | Running, always something on all 4's. At home I ride in bell boots and split boots only so that the tendon strengthens and doesn't weaken being supported every single ride.
I have a mare that burns through polo wraps in the back, I just imagine what her fetlocks would be doing without anything on them. The one time I didn't put anything on the hinds, and came out with a knick. Those legs do some funky things during a run and I don't want to chance it. |

My sister had one that hated boots. She run him with bell boots and the small splint boots on the front for some form of protection, an actual SMB he wouldn't run. |

| I do all 4. The hind end is just as important as the front to me. |

 Am I really the Weirdo?

Location: Kansas | My geldings all run with boots or polos all the way around. Chance, Fred, and Streak run in polos all the way around, and Cliff runs with hind boots (he'll burn through polos in about 3 runs) and either boots or polos on the front. I keep boots in the trailer that fit everyone (except Fred because boots don't fit him right) so I can do boots instead of polos in a pinch. |

Location: SE Missouri | daily - bells with light splint boots if I'm going to be doing drills (no splints if I'm just going to be exercising/just loping big circles and not a lot of crossing over or roll backs)
runs - bells always, usually boots all the way around. I will run with just front boots on occasion and have never had an issue with fetlocks getting burned (except roping). It is cheap insurance but I think some horses just flat don't like them. |
