Anyone Have a Barrel Horse That They Can't Turn Out?

I have a mare that is a crazy fool when I turn her out. She plays really hard and always gets into trouble - even when she is out all the time. Three times now she has hurt herself while turned out and I've had to do extensive rehab on her. After the last time, my vet recommended that I keep her stalled. She is in a nice big stall with a window she can hang her head out at the front and the back, and she gets out pretty much every day - either ridden, worked on the lunge line or hand walked.

I feel so bad for her but I don't know what else to do. Anyone else have a horse like this that they have to keep stalled so they don't tear themselves apart? She's her own worst enemy.

I have 3 that play hard and scare the mess out of me all the time but I still turn them out.  They have huge 15 x 15 stalls with big 35 x 50 runs but I just hate not letting them be horses so out they go.   They have not seriously hurt themselves though, just pull shoes, nicks and scrapes.

Mine all play hard.  The good horse has had a few serious injuries, but he still goes out.  Mine settle down after about 10 minutes.  They play like stud horses.  Play fighting, biting, wrestling. Boys will be boys.

My horses have been cooped up for days because of the rain, my pasture is like a lake.. and horribly muddy.. I've been letting them out individually when I clean stalls, I find that if I turn them all together they act like idiots, running full speed and sliding to a stop right before they hit the fence!! The 3 yr old still runs and slides by himself I just turn around so I don't have to watch! I couldn't imagine Keeling one stalled 24/7 but if that's what you gotta do... I don't blame you one bit to keep her from injuring herself.

Turned my ASOF out ONCE for 12 hours.  Five thousand dollar vet bill later and sunlight will never touch her hide again unless she's on a lead rope.

Sadly, it's always the good ones.  The dinks can be out with ten junk cars, rolls of barbed wire and moldy hay, not a scratch or colic ever.
