Wondering if a horses body temp adjusts or is affected by blanketing? My gelding always is 99.8-100 like clock work. Even being vaccinated last week his temp was back down to 99 by Sunday. Starting yesterday we have been in a very cold snap for CA. Temp went from 80s to highs in 40s last couple days. 20s at night. I have been monitoring his temp and he has been 100.5-100.8 24/7 for last couple days. Will a horses body ramp it up if it suddenly gets cold?? He has had a light blanket on last couple days to so I doubt he is dissipating much heat. Will that keep his temp up? Mine are all slick and shed out or else I wouldn’t even use a light blanket. Lol thanks !

I would think the temperature is affected more from the cold than the blanket. If he seems BAR (bright, alert and responsive), and is eating and drinking normally after the vaccine reaction, then yes, he could just be producing more body heat to deal with the cold snap. If he's dull or lethargic, not wanting to eat or drink, then I would have him checked out by a vet.

His sore neck is a lot better. Not 100 percent but close. Lol eating and drinking well. I wouldn’t say he is 100 percent his old self
But vet said his neck may be sore up to a week and it might take 4-5 days to really return to normal.
