What did you do to stay in shape during pregnancy? Also what did you do after baby was born to get back in riding shape?

Hahahaha I didn't stay in shape during both of my pregnancy's, but I was out on bed rest with both past the halfway mark. I got sick of really sweet things or treats so I didn't have those much but I couldn't get enough of chips. I gained the max recommend weight gain with both girls, around 35ish lbs and I think that helped some. Before I had my first baby I did hours of research on diastis recti and how you need to check yourself and fix it yourself after having your baby. Fixing that helped me jump back into regular working out, riding confidently, and made me feel like my guts weren't hanging out anymore. A year after baby 1 I was back at my pre-pregnancy weight and feeling great! Now a year after baby #2 was born I'm back at my pre-pregnancy weight again! A mix of cardio and strength weight workouts are your best friend. But you definitely take it slowly in the beginning and just listen to your body.

Stay in shape during pregnancy? Ha.

With my first, I just tried to make it through the day without throwing up. My second was better in that aspect but also different times of year. I rode into the second trimester with my second, but I think I’ve pretty much gained about the same amount of weight (about 40+ pounds).

With my first, since she was born in the month of June, I chose to enjoy motherhood and not even worry about finding time to ride. It took me a good 8 months to lose the weight but end result was even better than I was pre/ pregnancy. I ate right and exercised. Getting back into riding was just fine.

For my second ... well he was just born 4 days ago so it’s TBD!! I’m planing on doing the same diet and exercise program (I like the 21 day fix) so we’ll see how long it takes to lose the weight this time. I hope to start riding again in 2 months but I do not expect to be in “peak” condition yet at that point.

Just keep being as active as you can while you are pregnant. I ran barrels until I was in my 4th month and kept riding until my 6th month. Walking is the easy exercise, but even doing house and barn chores will help to keep you moving. You can do it and you will feel better for doing it. Just remember to get the extra sleep that you need.

Having a baby doesn't mean you have to stop doing what you're used to doing.  I helped roof a garage when I was 8 months -my mom was petrified but I've always worked hard when necessary.  Unless there is some underlying medical condition that limits your activity, do what you want unless it hurts.  Being pregnant is not a life ending condition-whenever I was feeling sorry for myself when I was pregnant I would think about our ancestors and the work that was needed just to survive and realized our bodies can handle a lot more than what we think :)
After the baby-good luck-there will be days you will wonder if you will survive!  Do what you can when you can-I walked a lot pushing a stroller-we both liked it.

I’m staying active and doing everything I did before pregnancy. I really haven’t rode but it’s been cold and wet. Once we get some pretty days I’ll get back to riding more. I just feel like the weight has been piling on! :( I’m due in June so still in the 2nd trimester. I bought a maternity workout dvd I may try to work on that a few days a week too. I’m just worried it’s going to be a major struggle to get my core strength back after little one is born. Y’all are giving me hope!

Congratulations on your new baby!! :) You’re giving me hope that I can get back to being slim and in shape.
