Do any of you try to stick to a theme when naming your babies? Or how do you feel about those that do have themed names? For example I know a lady that has 2-4 babies per year and each year has a theme. One year was alcoholic beverages (Hot Toddy, Martini), another was brands of cars (Bugatti, Porsche, Mercedes).

I'm kind of thinking of starting a theme with my first baby hopefully due next year. I really love music, and was thinking of going with titles of songs that mean a lot to me. I know one year I saw a thread here that a horse should be named "Another Vice" after Miranda Lambert's song came out - I checked, it's taken.

What are ya'lls thoughts?

I tend to do themed names myself - often songs that I hope an announcer will play when the horse runs. I have found if I put my initials in front - about any name is available. Plus its a way to identify them as from your program.

I have a good friend that raises very very nice Percherons. The first year everything was an A and each year is the next letter of the alphabet.

We do different things. Usually a combo of names in pedigree but we’ve started being different in some cases. Pick Pocket Annie is 6 this year and her name was super random but this winter we googled it and found a crazy story about a real person nick named Pick Pocket Annie.

I do most of mine lately with WWII/military names. One cross is usually after B-17 bombers. Lil Memphis Belle (dam is Special Lil Ivory), full sib is Lil Lady Jeannette. I have one picked for this year if is a filly too.

John Riker of Westenhook Farms used a baby name book and named his horses
for years like they were his own children .... "baby name" West .... and then
he switched to "baby name" Riker ... Lyn Palm was his trainer and they
produced a lot of ROM and AQHA CHAMPIONS ..

I bought an AQHA Champion stud horse named ANTHONY WEST ....
http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/anthony+west

"Tony" had over 60% of his foals to earn their ROM's
I don't think there is a stallion out there that can compete with his
siring record.

I still get random letters or sales brochures addressed to ANTHONY WEST ..
lol

The breeder of my mare does a lot of music themes with their program initials. They are Rock Bottom Barrel Horses so most have RockBottom "name" or RB "name." A few examples of theirs:

Bad Moon Rison
RBYellinTimber (my mare)
RockBottomCrazyTrain
RockBottomFreeBird
RockBottomRudeBoy
RockBottomFloRyda
RockBottomPartyRocker

Doesn't tell you anything about bloodlines by the name, but you could come up with some neat ideas. Most people are going to look them up on allbreed no matter what their names are & some of these big names are getting overused I think

One of the BB's did George Strait themes. Love her names!!!

I don't breed but all of my aniamls are pop/soda names: crush, moxie, Shasta. I want a gray and name it sprite and a corgi and name it squirt.

No themes for me. The first year we barn-named our first filly Charm so we named our second colt Chopper to match. After that, we just named them based off their personalities.

Ronnie Stewart the owner of Royal Shake Em and I had a facebook message back and forth and he ended up naming a horse after a WWII buddy of my grandpa's Papa Jack Coleman. The horse never ran as well as I had hoped and sold, but I think that is so neat and will forever respect Ronnie S. When the right colt comes along I will name it after my grandpa who is still doing well at 92...and another for his brother that was KIA during WWII.

My Registerd names have a theme, but my barn names do not.

My registered names usually have an alcohol theme to them.
