Oil to darken leather

I just got a new earpiece for my browband headstall to make it a single ear but itβs too light to match the rest of my headstall. Just wondering can this be oiled to darken it a bit? What kind of oil do I use? Thanks in adnavcr

I've found neatsfoot will darken pretty good. Just brush on several layers. Letting them dry like paint in between applications. Drying in the sun helps too.

Agreed. Heating up the neatsfoot oil container in hot water helps too. Using a paint brush is awesome too, especially for detailed pieces.

Pure neatsfoot oil, not the compound.
If the leather feels like it has a sealer or coating on it, clean and let dry with Murphyβs oil soap first, otherwise the oil wonβt penetrate as well.
