What supplements have been used to fight allergies in horses, esp coughing?  Thanks!

I did an allergy test! It was very eye opening and I was feeding him 1/2 the stuff on the allergy test that showed what he was allergic to. Took that away and I still do my forefront respiratory and this is the first year he has done so well! and I did not vaccinate with the rhino/flu. He has done amazing this year during all this crazy weather!

I’m glad the allergy test worked !! My vet told me they were only 20 percent accurate and most would come back that the horse was allergic to everything imaginable. Lol the one I had tested , it was. 19 different allergens. We did the custom shots for a while but as soon as I started forco , all symptoms went away!

I have seen FORCO improve allergy symptoms also. It is easy for improper function in the hind gut to alter immune response. FORCO along with a proper diet can make a significant difference in normalizing that hind gut function and immune response. There are some feed ingredients that can influence immune reaction and create a negative response in horses that have a sensitivity. Wheat, corn and soy are three that I would limit or completely eliminate from your horses diet. This can be hard because they are not always clearly listed on ingredient lists. Wheat mids, vegetable protein byproducts, and distillers grain by products can cover a lot of different things. Soy is the hardest to eliminate because it is one of the cheapest sources of protein for use in horse feed, and therefor used a lot. Many horses handle soy fine, but if you do have allergy symptoms in your horses, you may be surprised at the improvement that you see by getting the soy out of your feeding program.

Me too Lol! He was only allergic to a handful of things. I never did the shots and I had no intention of doing shots anyways I just wanted to see the results and try to make the changes. I have a friend that sold a horse and he was allergic to orchad hay and that was all they fed hay wise besides alfalfa and they pulled that and huge difference. I have 2 other friends that did the allergy test and feeds very clean and they had luck pulling what they was allergic to. I want to do on my 2nd horse I got just to see but I have to fix a couple things first.

I've had better results feeding Flax than I did with any respiratory supplements. I also steam his hay. I tried switching to oats and it was way worse. The allergies have been really bad here the past month.

That is interesting about Forco...I have tried another digestive supplement, but I can't say it helped a whole lot. My allergy horse is gassy.....

The horse I had tested would get full blown HIVES almost twice a week. SO much so I couldn't give him any more dex for fear of laminitis. The FORCO took care of it.

I'm a huge Cur-OST fan!  It's the only thing i've ever used that lended results it promised, even when dealing with a very critical case.  I would also advise to remove any and all processed feeds and supplements, as that alone can contribute to alleries and other inflammatory and immune related conditions.   https://nouvelleresearch.com/index.php/articles/articles/equine-articles/page/2

my mare has been doing really well on equipulmin. I have only heard her cough once since we started using it and we were in a really dusty area.
