Location: Bastrop, Texas		The hole is there for a reason. Plugging it again prematurely defeats the reason for the hole. It’s like draining a soft tissue abscess by incising it and then closing the incision with sutures, which practically guarantees a recurrence . If it were me, I’d think twice about plugging the abscess cavity, lest you convert a simple problem into a bigger one, like osteomyelitis in the coffin bone. I would imagine that can’t be too much fun.

thank you.   will do the vet wrap thing and easy boots.  no putty. 
That being said, has anyone used Red horse artimud?

I also do not really recommend putting anything in the hole if you can keep it wrapped, if you have a run that you really have to make though I have used keratex hoof putty in the hole or magic cushion. I have rode them wrapped outside with a soft ride and taken the soft ride off inside, filled the hole, made my run, then re-wrap and soft ride boot back on.



As stated above, BE SURE the abscess is done draining cause if you fill the hole with either and theres a tiny bit of abscess left, you are right back to square one.
I am going to do just as u say. Use boots till ready to run and put right back on but a question: does the hoof putty come right out after run? Doesn’t it harden up and hard to get out? And do I vetwrap over the putty and foot as well as using putty or only putty? Also do i put putty in right before run or can it be a bit before?

When I did this run, I used magic cushion and I didn't wrap over the top of it. When I was done my run, I peeled it back out (it is kind of in a big lump and came out in one piece) slapped my poultice wrap back on, soft ride back on and back to the trailer. When at the trailer, I flushed the hole and put a new poultice back on.
