What is the difference? When do you do which?

My gelding will cough only when it’s humid out, and he seems to sweat a lot more than I’m use to in horses. Ironically it’s spring and end of summer I notice it when my allergies flare up too.
I need to do some work on my conditioning program and put some sprints in.

So where should I invest money into this guy?

I’m learning so much still, and it can be overwhelming sometimes

If his coughing seems more environmental and not exercise induced - ie he’s only coughing after a run or giving you other reasons to believe that he’s bleeding, sudden change in performance etc. I would probably skip the scope and/or BAL for now and try just addressing the allergies.

My own allergies have been horrible since we got a bunch of rain and everything started blooming again, including my arch nemisis the Ragweed. I was dying every morning for about a week until I got some good allergy meds built up. My horse has also had a cough here and there.

There are several equine allergy products on the market. If someone in your area had an Equi Resp that might be good too for a couple treatments.

If you can’t get it under control or it gets worse, then I would address it with a vet.

A bal is a procedure where the actually collect cells out of the lungs and lab test it for taxes of blood, etc.

A scope is just a visual of the upper airway.

What to do exactly depends exactly of what's happening. When your house coughs, is it only after a run? Riding? Turn out? That would tell a lot.

Thank you! I wasn’t sure which road to proceed down. Time to do some studying on allergy things for him to start.

It’s only one cough either as soon as we start loping or right after a run and again only on super humid days mid spring or late summer. We’ve been pounded with the rain as well and the weeds are horrendous
