Feed, hay & Sups. (Average)

I have 1 expensive one, and 3 cheap ones so I average $100/horse.

I board ($350) and then pay for 3 different supplements (about $100/mo), and then farrier ($35/4 weeks), and then any vet expenses.

Hubby and I figured $100/mo per horse just on hay and farrier work.

I board, plus buy my own feed & supplements. It's about $1200 per month for 3 horses, so around $400 per horse. Looking to sell my house & get a place I can keep them myself. Should only cost me about $500 a month total that way. This doesn't include farrier or vet costs either

3 out of 5 are on early retirment due to injury....  I don't want to know, because if I did it would be hard to justify this nonsense.

One of mine has been a pasture pet for 12 years now, but he was my first horse so he'll never go anywhere. So there's about $400 a month just to keep him around. Luckily he eats the least of them all & is the only barefoot one, so his cost is slightly less than the others. I hate thinking about how much I spend on them, if I had one less horse I wouldn't know what to do with all that extra money

I should have remained "don't want to know" LOL

From what I can figure for hay, grain, farrier, vaccines, rads/injections/chiro/massage I am spending roughly 325/month/horse, or 1300 a month.

Arrgh

I board two horses, $300/a horse.
Horse #1 is $100 every 6 weeks for farrier, and Previcox which is $35/month.

Horse #2 is $150 every 6 weeks for farrier, supplements every month around $115

Add in misc, fly spray, treats etc, another $30 per horse each month.

I board for $465 a month, shoes, grain, supplements. I'd say average around $550. for 1 horse.

I need my own property.

I'm betting if you were completly accurate and honest, you spend much more than $100 per head.

It depends on the horse. All ours are out on a pasture and are brought in for breakfast and diner. Winter means round bales, so that adds up a bit more.
Our broodies average between $100-$125 in the summer and between $150-$200 in the winter.
The boys that are running/ riding average around $150 in summer and between $200 and $250 in the winter.

I'm so thankful we don't board!!

Just feed I spend at most $80 per horse, and I overestimated everything.

Round hay is a cattle expense so it doesn't "count" against the horses...we'd bale hay even if we didn't have the horses and they don't eat enough to make a dent in the supply.

The only supplement they get is a fat sup with coat conditioners and other good stuff mixed in and that adds I think $1/day...so the ones that get it come to $120/month just in what they consume.

So average is still $100/horse on the high side. If I had to buy square hay that would add $40 per horse per month. When we get our barn finished that will be an added expense. On that same token once they are getting better quality hay I'll be able to cut back on their grain, so it will balance out some.

Before I boarded, and they were at the house on pasture, it ran me about $100/month per horse. But since moving north and having to board, costs have risen. Im almost afraid to write it down.

Now? and one of my mares was just diagnosed with pedal osteitis and is on previcox and OCD pellets every day.
$300/month board for 2
$248/month on feed & hayrite
$50/month in grass hay
$598 total for a month just feed and board.
We'll say roughly 300/month for 1 horse.

$50/month previcox
$100/month for OCD pellets

Farrier went from
$90 to $150 for shoes on 1
$45 for a trim on the other.
