Location: Hiding from Reality | I have done a search for Omeprazole and that is super overwhelming. Best place to purchase? Best product to purchase? Trying to avoid spending thousands of dollars on Gastroguard. |

compounded OMEP is Super unstable and efficacy is sketchy at best. I’ve had several horses come here on compounded products still showing signs of ulcers, put them on Gastrogard and they get better. Cheap product becomes expensive if it doesn’t work .
There is a $5 rebate on Gastrogard/Ulcergard. |

Location: Illinois | I get a paste that my vet gets made, you could ask your vet. It's around $225 for a 30 day supply that way. Try asking your vet if they know a lab you can get some from. You could try Abgard, some have used it. But just be aware if you use it and don't add a daily preventative with it, omeprazole will cause ulcers itself once removed from their system. So make sure you have their stomach buffered with something when you stop using it, otherwise they'll be back and you just wasted your money. |

Location: South Georgia | My medical insurance for him paid for the Gastrogard, but in the past I have had results with Abgard (made by Abler and can be ordered online). My vet and farrier actually suggested the Abler products. They did work. A full run of Abgard (omeprazole) paste was about $300 compared to $900 for Gastrogard.

It is worth the money. It works and with proper follow up nutrition, you can keep the ulcers under control. |

"DOSAGE: The minimum recommended dosage is 1 mg/kg per day (0.45 mg/lb) or 1/4 syringe. When given once daily during the stressful period, ULCERGARD has been shown to effectively prevent stomach ulcers in horses. This effect was tested in horses exposed to stressful conditions for either 8 or 28 days."
Would you go a head and give 28 doses? What is an option to follow up with? Or do I just keep some on hand for "stressful situations?" |

You can' follow the prevention dosage if you're treating. It's 2.28 Grams to treat, you need the whole tube everyday, same as GastroGard. So you'll need 28 tubes of Ulcergard

Treatment for ulcers is a full tube for 28 days. Even after that though, you may want to do more and wean them off of it more slowly. |
