I Really Love Jeans Posts: 3173 Location: North Dakota	I have a mare that’s 14 hands and she has no problem clocking! I find the small horses can maneuver around better! One of the best I ever had was 13 hands and he had no problem at all he was actually a blast to ride! Some prefer bigger horses though so it’s up to you if you want a smaller horse!

Veteran Posts: 217	Just to add to all these really valued points. I know cows and horses aren't exactly the same but I'm still going to throw this out. We didn't feed our first calves (born spring 2017) right, was told incorrectly and never researched. So they never really looked bad, but they never looked great. Over their first winter we changed our program. The smallest changed the quickest and grew up a lot. (this one kids can sit on supervised and picks up all four of her feet ) The bull slowly progressed and this fall he finally looks healthy and masculine. The third one is still catching up. You can see where she has grown, or filled out, and then shoots up a little more. Minerals and feeding them enough good stuff to support their growth helped them. Gave us quite the kick as a learning curve, but now we know. Just give her some time

	My daughter's mare is about 14.2 and the breeders actually gave her away as a yearling because they thought she would be too small. We bought her from a friend as a 3 year old, who picked her up at the local sale for $300. She is 7 now and my daughter heels, breakaway ropes, and runs barrels and poles on her. She turned out to be an exceptional mare. She still did a lot of growing later on and even though she is little, she did widen up quite a bit. My daughter is about 5'6 and weighs about 145 and even with a heavy roping saddle the mare has had no trouble carrying her weight.

I know I was one of those parents didn't get a 2D horse, didn't even get a registered horse but trying to find something that size for my daughter took a whole lot of searching and luck. There were some that were pretty pricey too. There is definitely a market for these size horses. And as far a to small my niece ran a mare that was just barely 14 hands and that was stretching it she was pretty much always in the 1D.
