Has anyone dealt with an injury to the medial patellar ligament? Went to the vet for a lameness because my horse just felt “off” and he found a tear.
He said it wasn’t horrible so we are going to see if Mother Nature will help us out a little with some stall rest and see if there’s improvement or if we need to do PRP or something along those lines.
He said it was somewhat uncommon, so I’m just curious if anyone else has dealt with it? What was the healing process like? Did they come back sound? What did you do to help the healing?
Thanks!!!

Not a super common diagnosis- I imagine it could cause some discomfort in the initial injury stage. However, this ligament is usually the one addressed for locking patella issues. It can actually be cut in two (if there is an issue with locking), and the horse can usually go on to be performance sound. I would imagine that as long as the tear heals sufficiently this horse could go back to normal activity. Rest is going to be the mainstay of treatment.
