Those of you that give your horses the winter off. What are your routines for getting them back in shape? Not only in shape but winning shape. I decided this year I am putting my full heart into it.

Well rigtht now in northern Iowa my horses are on their own workout just getting thru 2 feet of snow..  Ours are outside all the time so they are not as out of shape as you would think.  Usually we don't get very much time to get them going in the spring before everything gets started. But we are all in the same boat here.

Ditto. Mine are also out 24/7 and walking thru 2-3 FT of snow. In a few weeks tho, I'll start out riding bareback just walking thru the snow for 15-20 minutes a few days a week. Once I have a nice path down, I'll incorporate long trotting as long as it isnt icy. Do that for a couple of weeks and then start loping/sprinting (if and where I can. Spring is nowhere in sight at the moment LOL). I'm hoping to be race ready by mid-April as long as weather allows!

I had to send Love off to the trainers to get her well legged up again. Got her into shoes again and then the weather turned and HAS NOT quit raining or snowing since.

For Zan - we're slogging through the mud when it isn't precipitating. But he's barefoot and lazy so it's easy (er) to do lazy workouts in the mud.
