Horse was on the track, noticed a slight off gait, track vet diagnosed as tendonitis and said to give time off. Present owner has done that but doesn't want to send the horse back to the track because he is getting older, of course, and they have a few in training already that are showing promise, so he is now looking pretty in a field. Track vet said they would be good to go with a different job, barrels, etc. Present owner offered me the horse. They don't ride and said he is a gentle giant, that he is good around kids etc.

Have any of you ever dealt with tendonitis in a horse? Is it recurring like the tennis elbow that I have. It hasn't come back full force like when I was first diagnosed but there are times when I can tell I aggravated it. Any info would be appreciated. Would it be worth to take on as a project and maybe turn around for a youth (if he is that gentle)?

Tendonitis is a very broad term. I think you need more diagnostics. Is there a lesion or is there a splint rubbing it ?

is there calcium in it ?

All I can say is if you fell you’ve “aggravated “ it, it’s not healed. Soft tissue problems can be a bugger to fix.
