Does anyone elses horse prop a leg while saddling? Ive noticed my gelding props a hind leg on whichever side I saddle from. Could this possibly be an indicator he is sore somewhere? As soon as the saddle is on, he goes back to standing on all 4. Maybe I'm thinking too much about it, could be he's just anticipating the saddle.

IDK. I had a bodyworker tell me a few months ago that a horse that doesnt usually stand square in situations like that may be uncomfortable. IDK if that would include the propping of a back leg. My guy does it. I just attribute it to relaxation. Maybe I'm wrong though. I wouldn't attribute that to soreness unless he shows it in other more obvious ways though.

My colt does this. At first I thought, OMG something is wrong with him, but I took a look at reality & I lunge him with a saddle on & he is 100% sound & he bucks just fine, so I think it was me getting worried over nothing. I'm known to do that  :)  But if I saw the slightest bit of lameness or he was off, he'd be at the vet in a heart beat

Yep. Same here! I just didnt know if doing that was linked to them hurting somewhere. Just a thought that crossed my mind since he does it every single time, no matter what side. I'm pretty positive it's just him anticipating the saddle being thrown on.
