What  was the outcome after the injury? Heal all the way partial? What was your best treatment? Trying to get the best game plan to fix this issue. Thanks!!!

I’ve never had suspensory issues. Knock on wood, they are about the only thing I don’t have experience with.

PM LianaD. She’s who I would ask. She’s a walking encyclopedia on lameness.

Depending on severity of the tear/hole lots of rest, stem cell and runners relief sweats. 

They can and do heal but it takes lots of time and patience 

I’ve rehabbed several Suspensory injuries. You need a good ultrasound to measure the lesion, then inject with PRP (Adequan if you want a cheaper alternative), laser treatments, stall rest and an ultrasound every 6 weeks to check progress. If you’re doing your homework the lesion should close about 10% every 4-6 weeks. As soon as fiber alignment is good and lesion is closed, start to gradually leg the horse up. Nothing but hand walking until lesion is closed and definitely no turn out in a large pen, controlled exercise only until lesion is closed.

keep in mind the horse’s body will shut down the healing process at around

8  weeks so you’ll want to up your laser treatments at that time. If you can use a laser mag wraps will help.

Shockwave therapy hasn’t helped my cases very much unless I’ve got a tiny bit of fluid left when it’s about healed up, then I’ll shockwave it once .

Thank you so much!! Honestly that’s about what I figured. So I guess the chances of reinjury are higher. Have you had many come back from this kind of injury?

Yes, chances are higher of re injury. Scar tissue isn’t as strong as normal tissue. That being said, I haven’t had one not come back.The worst one I had was several years ago. He’d torn 80% of the high Suspensory at the origin. He’s still competing today. He was my first one and I learned a lot from him. He was also the main one that I learned, dispute the vet’s advice, turning out to let him heal on his own was totally counterproductive. The vet wanted to shockwave him 1 time per month and let him live in a 1 acre lot. 4 mo later and zero healing, new vet and stall rest and the healing began.

My horse partially tore his Superficial Digital Flexor Tendon June of 2018.  Lots of fetlock drop - UGLY to look at.

We did PRP and 6 months of stall rest. 3 shockwave sessions (which I found to be hugely beneficial)

Magnawave more times than I can count -though I'd spend money on shockwave over MW if I needed to pick one.

He was cast first, followed by lessening degrees of wedged cuffs, followed by 3* shoes, 2* shoes and FINALLY LAST WEEK - natural balance shoes.

He was rehabbed from a 3 minute handwalk to now slow loping a pattern over the past 6 months.

OMG what a process. 

My question to those who compete on them after all this - how do you trust that it won't explode and start back at square one.  :( :( i want to run this horse again.

THIS ^^^^ Liana and 1D both suggested this route and my mare had a major tear; we did PRP, 6 months stall rest with progressive hand walking, runners relief ... she has healed up without issue to the suspensory.  Time is your best friend.
