I know this is a personal decision, but how do you decide which horse to sell when things in life change and you have two great horses. I am having a hard time making up my mind! One I'm currently competing on, but our styles are different. He's a good horse and to ride him he's great, but just different style on barrels. The other is a colt and he is a nice, nice little horse but won't be ready to compete for a couple of years but I think he'll be my style. Just, how do you choose?

I think it would depend on what your plan is and if you are able/wanting to compete now, versus have the time to spend a couple years seasoning a young one. If you have the time to commit to a young one to get them where you want/need them to be, then I’d say go for that one. If you can’t commit the time, and would just rather compete now even though you two don’t mesh then do that. However I’m not sure how much fun you’d have riding one you don’t fit with, and you might kick yourself for selling the young one.

I put both up for sale and let fate decide.

how do you know what "Style" the colt is if he's never been ridden?

I've been riding said colt since December, just riding him he's more the style I'm used to, I guess, and a personality I like. But being as he's two and depending on how he matures physically and mentally, I wouldn't want to compete on him til he's 4 at the earliest and more than likely 5 (I don't like to rush mine, it takes me more than a month to have one ready to get on when I'm breaking them, but I want to make sure they are mentally to that point, I take things really slow and try to fix any holes before it gets there).

I thought about that, but then thought what if I accidentally sold both!

It sounds like you like and enjoy the colt more, so keep that one. That's what I'd do anyway if I had to sell one is keep the one I enjoyed the most.
