Ordering a new bumper pull trailer and am trying to decide about whether or not to get an awning. It's an extra $1500.

For those of you who have awnings, do you use them very often? Pros and cons? Are they worth the extra money?

We have one on our LQ, I use it semi-frequently.

Just depends on where I’m camping and for how long.  Or if I want to preserve my personal space from the parking spot next to me, I’ll put it out if I’m somewhere notorious for trailers being close.

mine’s electric so it’s easy to put out and back in.

i have seen them also mounted back on the horse area - I’d like one of those someday so they always have shade. 

on a BP no, it won't be big enough to do much good

LQ yes, very helpful. 

I use mine all of the time, especially in the summer time. I actually use it more for my horses than me. Gives them a good shaded spot to stand tied in the summer. If you don’t think your horses will stand tied under the awning, then no I don’t think it would be worth it. But I LOVE having a place they can stand in the shade. 

My first trailer had one, honestly didnt use it very much.. it was more of a pain than anything. It was an electric awning. After it rains I'd have to let it out to dry and if theres any breeze at all, forget it. We bought a new trailer and it didnt have an awning. I just keep easy ups in the trailer if we need shade. Less drama to deal with with an easy up. Where I live its constantly windy it seems, so we rarely used the awning. However. I wouldn't complain if my new trailer had one, but on the same note, I wouldn't have paid to have one installed either lol! 

I have seen awnings get rip off the trailers at races many times when a wind picks up, they would have their awnings out and leave out to go eat or make a run the wind picks up hard and awnings get ripped off are getting shredded are wraping around someones else's trailer like mine

We've used them for us a lot on trail rides, but at our local rodeo we would put the horses under it for shade and even during a downpour one time.    Love ours--it is a LQ not a BP. . .  (Like Miss Roxie said tho, winds can be tricky!!)

Our old trailer came with one, and I really never used it. The trailer we have now doesn’t have one, and I really haven’t missed it.

And when it gets really hot I can put up a pop up canopy Uo next to the trailer.

When we would go to the bigger races for 4 days a friend and I would park our trailers side by side and put one of those big pop up canopy's between us and tie them off on our trailers, so awesome we would put our tables, chairs under it and sometimes would sleep under it, and have a grill so we could cook when we felt like cooking, never did have to worry about it blowing away and sometimes at Waco we had some pretty good stroms blow threw. 

Always loved having an awning. The bigger the better. If I were to order another LQ trailer it would an awning on both sides. Loved the convenience of the electric awnings but the manula were more stable. 

No awning on my trailer but i wish it did. But im not spending a lot of money to add to it. So with that said i have 2 pop-up tents. One for horses one for people

Yes! I love how you can move the pop ups around however you want. And if you tie them to the trailer they stay put. Plus our 10yo has no issues hanging out under them.... not so sure about the 4yo. But he will learn soon enough...

I use my awning all the time. We're going to start going during the day again and it'll still be hotter than Hades so that awning is priceless for shade. It's kinda huge - runs full length of the trailer - but at least we can all get underneath it comfortably. 

The pop up tents make me nervous cause nothing I own is trustworthy enough to not run into the legs, freak out, and cause a big ol' scene. Not a lot of sense at my trailer these days.

love my awning.................you can always have it and not use it.  I would not be with out one.  Much easier to pack than a pop up tent.  

I have a full length manual awning on my LQ. I personally think its a PITA and haven't hardly used it. I've tried to use it but always have an issue with it. But I think its me. My hubby can put it out and back with no issue.

I have a 2 step manual awning and I love it.  Use it frequently and the wind doesn't bother it much, or maybe I just don't put it out on windy days... 

I have an electric awning and I LOVE it! I use it all the time (just have to be cautious when it is windy). I had a manual one previously and it was a pain.  I like the automatic a lot better!
