Just as the subject says, what are the alternatives to Lasix to use for a bleeder?

I think Lasix is the only thing that really work. I have a very mild bleeder who has scoped very minimal bleeding who I ran on Lasix just in case. Vet thought most of his cough after the run was more due to his roaring issue, which also probably causes the light bleeding. I quit using it this year and just amped up his conditioning routine and put him on MVP's Air-Way EQ. Hasn't bled this year yet. I highly reccomend that product, he's running a lot harder too which is always a plus. Its nice to not have to lasix a black horse on a 90 degree summer day in the sun. If I had one that bled more I would just stick with lasix and the Air-Way EQ

Lasix is the only proven remedy, but it does have it's side effects.

Some supplements might be able to help or mitigate EIPH, I have used Oxygen 2x on my bleeder with great results.  2 months back I did switch to the new MVP bleeder supplement and she bled for the 1st time in almost 2 years, put down a smokin' run though.  My regiment during this time was oxygen2x daily, 10cc Dex 2 hrs out and a good dosage orally of air power 20 minutes out.  This had worked and she was running very good for almost 2 years.  She has been scoped twice after runs with no signs of bleeding.  So now I am switching back to the oxygen2x and will see how she does at the last couple cooler weather races of the year.

I have also used ventipulmen with good results though it has been known to make some horses a little "hot".

This weekend I will try the Dex with venti and see how things go.  I always felt Lasix took a bit of the run out of her, even on just 3cc.

I do not need anything to make this horse hot or hotter, LOL. This horse is a little fussy about what he eats (I have literally had him spit out pastes and refuse pellets and cookies), so looking for the best option for him, sounds like Lasix may be it. Because I board I worry that I'll give it at the right time before we run.

Change the way you condition, add more calcium/phosphate balanced to diet.

I second the Yunnan Baiyao. They have it at Big Dee's but you'd have to mix it into a paste yourself and I'm not sure how easily a picky eater will like the smell/taste of it. There is also bleedersheild which is made with the Yunnan Baiyao.

You do not feed the yunnan baiyou. mix one of the vials with about 5oz of water and you syringe it in the mouth 3 to 5 hours before you run.
