Hi everyone!!  Basically haven’t been on here in years,   Missed y’all!

General question that I’m sure will have plenty of opinions...which is what I want, opinions and options.

Go-to saddle for colts and/or high withered, semi-narrow backed horses?

Long story short, my go to saddle is an extremely old Martha Josey Circle Y round skirt.  Problem is, in my “aging” years, I’ve gotten used to the higher cantles and 1/2 inch seat size difference in my main saddles for my seasoned personal horses.  I’d like to find a newer saddle that basically replaces the old Circle Y but with the higher cantle.

While I don’t mind shimming and using my CE Biofit pad for colts, I’m sincerely hoping to find a good fit for my 4 yr old who has high yet fairly narrow withers and a semi-short back.  Main reason being, he already has spine concerns that I definitely do not want to magnify.

Finally, for those who don’t know (or remember lol) me, I started in hunter jumpers so I naturally ride more forward in my seat than most.  So I absolutely do not want a saddle that throws me forward.

Any and all advice is appreciated!! ??

This is not a common saddle, but I wish I could take my current saddle back in time to use on my narrow, high withered, short-backed gelding - Len Brown makes saddles with a tree that does not pinch. I have sat over 60 saddles on this gelding's back and ridden in about 50 of them.  He does not make the model I have anymore, but the tree is the same.

This same saddle works on my very wide cow bred mare that took so long to start on barrels because my other saddles would roll.

I recommend trying a Martin BTR!  I've had great luck with them on narrower and high withered horses.  Also, they have forward hung stirrups which keeps you seated. :)

Mine isn't a colt, but my high withered, more narrow 9 y/o gelding I like my Jeff Smith C3 on him. It sits me square (I can keep my feet under or in front of me, doesn't typically throw me forward unless I'm REALLY out of position). I ride him in a regular tree and still use my CE biofit pad, but it fits WAY better than my Courts with the same pad (although that saddle fits okay on him). This is definitely my go to.

For complete disclosure, I use my Courts saddle on all my colts as it fits many horses with a pad change, because colts change so much.
