I normally run in a twisted dogbone o ring combo, and tried a short shank junior cow horse smooth mouth with a roller out. I didn't run in it, but I worked with him in it at home and I don't think it's going to work for him. He acts weird in it. I know he kind of would because it's new, but I just don't think it's going to work. Maybe I'm wrong, I'll try it again. If it doesn't work though, what would you suggest switching to? I know some people don't like to use the twisted bits, but I don't mind them. I just figured I would try a smooth since it's less harsh, but I'm not against keeping twisted. I mainly just want to get rid of the noseband.

If your going from direct to leverage its going to be a learning experince and you will need to teach him about the new pressure points and how to give to them. Not sure if your just moving out of an o ring for the first time or not by the post.

It would be the first time really. At home I ride in an o ring snaffle and then when we run I use my dogbone o ring combo.

What is happening that makes you want to switch it up?

Well, how did your runs go this past weekend?

Correct me if I am wrong OP, but this is the combo bit you are currently using, correct? (sorry, I don't know why it is showing so huge)   You could look into one of the Carol Goosetree bits, if you still want to keep the gag action but ditch the noseband.

Correct, it is. I do basically just want to ditch the noseband so I will look into that bit you mentioned! Thank you.
