My gelding somehow got hurt. I noticed he was stiff/ short striding on his left rear. Upon further inspection I found a huge knot on his hindquarter. It is tender to run your finger down it. It has some hard spots on it. Still feels warm to the touch.
So I gave him bute and put DMSO on it. Figured he got kicked or something and it will go away. I have also cold hosed it. I have done all of this for over two weeks.
He has had limited turn out due to our boarding situation. I have talked to a couple vets, they seem to think he just got kicked.
Now I am worried because it has gone on so long. I plan on getting him an appointment with a very good lameness vet when he comes back to the area.
When I was putting the DMSO on it last night, he acted like it hurt, but also itched. I lightly scratched it through the glove. He loved it and was mutual grooming the horse in front of him.
What could it be? A kick that won't heal? Turn into an abscess? A pulled muscle?? Its driving me crazy not knowing. I can't wait to get him into Dr Ford.

Since you said he was itchy in that spot and warm to the touch I kinda thinking he got kick and abscessed..
