My husband and I will be moving back to Texas next summer to be closer to his parents. We've been looking at properties online and would really like to be closer to Fort Worth because my husband travels a lot and will need to be close to DFW, and I have some health issues which will require more frequent doctor's visits. Property around Fort Worth is extremely expensive,  and we've noticed you can get more for your buck in Stephenville horse property wise. Do you think it would be worth it to buy in Stephenville even if we have to drive to Fort Worth 1-2x week? Or just look for something closer (Weatherford,  Burleson, Decatur)? Thanks!

There are a lot of nice towns south of Ft Worth. For the life of me I can't think of the names of them. Also west and north of Ft Worth are great areas.

Stephenville is just far enough away to be inconvenient.  I live about 25 miles south of Ft. Worth.  A little further south will get you better prices - Rio Vista, Glen Rose, Grandview areas - even if you went as far as Hillsboro, you'd be right on I-35 and a straight shot to FW or Dallas.

Alvarado, Joshua, Grandview.  you can still get land reasonable and you are 30 min from Fort Worth.

which side of Fort Worth does he need to drive to 1-2 per week?  Are you talking about the airport?  To me, it depends on which side of I-35 you are on and it is so much better when you don't have to cross it lol

The toll roads are helping some.

I'm not as familiar with land down South, except a friend of mine just moved from Wise Co (Paradise) to Stephenville and said properties/property tax were less there. She has to travel to airport but not near as often as your husband...but otherwise she works from home, so the distance to airport is not a big deal to someone like her vs. someone who travels to an office every day, as well as the airport.

There are some Wise Co/Decatur areas that are priced decent, but it is growing...and I'm sure you know more than I on how they compare to Erath Co as far as price.  Definitely pray about it!  It took us 3 years looking in 4 different Counties, trying to stay close enough to Ft Worth, and we landed in a house a mile down the road from my parents....and we were on a very tight budget.  I told someone we could never wait that long for a house...I also said "no way" when I saw the listing for our house and the "Reduced" added to the list picture.  Praying you will make the right decision!

If he flys out of DFW every week for work I do have a thought for you. My husband flys ever week for work as well. Traffic to the DFW airport is horrendous no matter which suburb you live in. The commute to the airport will take up to 2 hours even if you are only 40 miles away. Also, airport parking there is very spendy. Our perfect solution is here in Abilene, TX. We have a small commuter airport that gets you to DFW in 45 minutes and you are already checked in and good to go anywhere in the world DFW can take you. Check in at ABI takes about 15 minutes tops and you dont have to get there crazy early. Flight from Abilene is usually around $200 - parking can cost that much at DFW.  Any of the citys in TX that have a commuter airline would probably have the same advantage. We love Abilene, good medical, and cost of living way lower, especially for nice horse places although they are a bit hard to find. Hope this gives you some food for thought.

I love Abilene.  The people there are so nice. Decent size town but still very rural.

Thanks for the suggestion of Abilene,  but My husband and I really like the Fort Worth area and would prefer to live there. I don’t know if it’s he time of year or not, but the houses for sale that have been popping up for sale this week have been priced considerably lower and in our price range. The cities we are looking at are Springtown, Haslet, Decatur, Weatherford, Millsap, Granbury, Burleson, Cleburne, Grandview and possibly Waxahachie. Is anyone from any of those cities? If so, can you give me any insights? Thanks
